Suffragette Walk 1918-2018 Deeds Not Words
Meet at the leader at Tattenham Corner car park (Epsom) at OS Exp 146/223585 at 10:30 for a 7 mile circular walk to Headley. The walk leaves Tattenham Corner (Emily Davison) and goes via Walton Downs Sheep Walk Headley Park Headley Costal Wood Mere Pond and back round the edge of the racecourse. Picnic/pub lunch at the Cock Inn Headley at the halfway point.
Staines to Datchet via Windsor Great Park (Oldest Oak)
Meet/start at 9.00 at Staines Station (street parking in vicinity of Knowle Green TW18 1XB) for a linear walk to Datchet via River Thames Runnymede (NT Cafe for coffee) Coopers Hill Savill Garden Copper Horse Windsor Great Park (passing the Oldest Oak) Windsor Farm Shop (for tea optional). Pub/picnic lunch at The Sun or Savill Garden. Return by train from Datchet (1/2 hourly 3 stops) to Staines.
Newlands Corner Walk
Meet 09:00 at Staines Leisure Centre for a car transfer to Newlands Corner car park (EXP 145 504385/149250 Postcode GU4 8SE). Walk starts at 10:15 (time for a coffee and bacon buttie before the walk). A circular walk over a mixture of terrain including grassland woodland lakes streams and old gunpowder mills. Starting from Newlands Corner the walk takes in St Martha’s Hill and Chilworth (pub/picnic lunch). One gradual climb before lunch and one steep and one gradual after.
Meet at 9.00 at Staines Station for a car share to the National Trust Tunnel car park at Bookham – Commonside 300m east of Bookham Station (nearest postcode KT23 3JY). Bring your NT cards for free parking. A fairly flat circular walk muddy in places via Bookham Common May’s Green a pub stop in Ockham then onward to Stumps Grove the Blue Ride and Effingham Common.
Chelsham Walk via the North Downs Way
Meet at 9.00 at Staines Railway Station for car transfer to Chelsham Common (Explorer 146/373590). Park near the Bull Inn CR6 9PB. This is a circular walk starting on the Vanguard Way skirting Woldingham and heading south to the top of the North Downs then along the North Downs Way before turning north at Tatsfield. Undulating with several steep descents and ascents. Good views! Bring refreshments for mid-morning break. Picnic or pub lunch at Ye Old Ship Tatsfield.
Spring Flower Experience in the Park
Meet 9.30am Wick Road Lay-by c.p. postcode TW20 0HN (Landranger 175 985 700) for Windsor Park circular walk. Pub Savill or picnic lunch. Afternoon walking to Snow Hill other side of the Park for the views. Anyone is welcome to come for just the morning 5 mile walk.
Short Dorney Walk
Meet at 10:00 at The Palmers Arms Village Road Dorney. SL4 6QW. We will walk along the Jubilee River visit part of the Dorney Wetlands. Then cut across to the Thames Path and return via Dorney Lakes. Hopefully Toilets will be available at start. Bring your own tea and coffee .
Bluebell Extravanganza Part 1
Meet at 09:00 at Staines station for a car transfer to the King's Hotel Stokenchurch HP14 3TA and a 9:45 start (note the time). This is a circular walk to and from Skirmett. This walk has been timed for when the bluebells are in full bloom so hopefully we'll be walking through some colourful woodland (well they were out this time last year so fingers crossed). Pub stop at the Frog Skirmett. There are some climbs on this walk. I've tried to keep them to a minimum but it's not possible to avoid them all in this area.
A Windmill Turnip Flowers and Ash - Again
Meet 10.15 at free NT car park adjacent to Bradenham village cricket green (SU 827970 nearest pc HP14 4HD) for a circular walk in the Chilterns visiting Lacy Green (Windmill) Turnip End, Flowers Bottom, Walter Ash and Naphill Common. Pub/picnic lunch towards end of walk. Same walk (almost) as last June without (almost certainly) last year's temperature of 34 degrees centigrade!
Bill Grace Challenge Walk – Bluebell Blast
Meet 8.00 (note time) at Staines Station (optional) for car transfer to Stokenchurch free public car park adjacent to the King’s Hotel (HP14 3TA SU760963). This year’s 20-mile challenge will start in Stokenchurch and take place slightly earlier in the season to catch the magnificent displays of bluebells blooming in the Chiltern woodlands at this time of year. An abundance of undulations are inevitable in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This will be at moderate pace to suit group NOT brisk and with water stops. Bring refreshments. Pub/picnic stop(s) tbc.
Some Ups but more Downs
Meet at 10.00am at the Tea Hut car park near Tattenham Corner. Explorer 146 GR223585. A circular walk via Walton Downs Wingfield Stud Farm coffee stop at Walton-on-the-Hill post office back along the edge of Tadworth Downs pub stop at The Rubbing House close by the Derby Racecourse this pub is half a mile from the finish.
Reigate Heath Leigh Brockham Betchworth Walk
Meet at 09.00 at Staines Railway Station for car transfer to parking area in Flanchford Road Reigate Heath. (Explorer 146/239503). A circular undulating walk mostly through farmland (numerous stiles) with good views via Skimmington Leigh Dawes Green Brockham and Betchworth and following the Greensand Way after lunch. Picnic or pub lunch at The Royal Oak Brockham. Bring own refreshments for mid-morning stop.
Shere and Peaslake Walk
Meet 9:00 (note time) at Cowey Sale (Walton Bridge) or 10:00 at Shere Recreation Ground car park (Explorer 145 TQ073479) for a circular walk around Shere Gomshall Peaslake and Little London. Coffee stop in Peaslake pub lunch or picnic near the end of the walk.
Meet 10:30 at Dorney Court Garden Centre Cafe (usual bacon butties at the start) for a flat easy walk. Past the 'Rowing Lakes' Thames Path and the Jubilee River. Lunch in Windsor.
St Swithuns Way Stage 2 Froyle to Four Marks
Meet at 08.30 at Staines Station for a car share to The Hen and Chicken pub, on the A31 between Farnham and Froyle, post code GU34 4JH. Park in the service road in front of the Hen and Chicken, or meet at this point to catch the 10.00 bus to Alton, then a second bus to Four Marks – in order to walk back to Froyle. Along the way we will stop at Chawton, for refreshments – either in the 16th century pub, or in the traditional tea room, Cassandra’s Cup, and have time for a brief look around the pretty village.
Meet at 09:00 at Staines station for a car transfer to the council car park in Amersham (Explorer 172 coordinates 959 973) and a 9:45 start (note the time). This is a circular walk to and from Forty Green via Penn Wood in the morning and back via Winchmore Hill and Coleshill in the afternoon. Not very hilly but there are some gentle rises. Pub stop at the Royal Standard of England.
West Hanger Circular
Meet at 10.15 at West Hanger Surrey Wildlife Trust car park (just north of junction with Coombe Lane, Staple Lane, Nr. Guildford GU5 9TE for a circular walk via East Clandon and the North Downs Way. Pub or picnic in East Clandon (Queens Head)
